Help create delicious wholesome food for campers and counselors! This position involves cooking with fresh ingredients in a high energy environment! Campers and counselors help with dishes, and every week, for a week, a couple parents of campers help in the kitchen, as part of a work-trade. You spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but also get to plug into whatever camp activities you are passionate about. There is a break in the middle of each week, when trips are out, but weekends are pretty busy! Room and Board provided.

The Woolman camps - Sierra Friends Camp and Teen Leadership Camp - are small programs serving 9-16 year-olds for 6 weeks of programming in the summer. Located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills near the scenic Yuba River and Tahoe National Forest, Woolman camps embody values of community, respect for nature, peace, and simple fun. Kids come to learn, play, make friends, and live in an accepting community where they can truly be themselves. In-camp activities include cooperative games, sports, arts, crafts, nature, music, singing, campfires, as well as place-based educational workshops. Each week also includes an offsite trip to nearby rivers, mountains and farms.
The job begins on June 8th, 2016 (flexible — could be as late at June 16th). Camp is in session for six weeks in June and July, and the job ends on August 6th, after a few days of debriefing and cleanup.
Experience cooking for large groups of people.
Prior work with this or other summer camps.
Passed TB test
Food safe handlers licence.
Optional: Current Class-B Driver's License for a 15-passenger van, or willingness to obtain one.
Work with the kitchen manager to run a safe and efficient kitchen.
Cook 2 (on occasion 3) meals a day, when camp is not on trips.
Work with Trip Food Support Staff to help with trip food planning/organzing
Potentially help drive shuttles for both camps.
Participate in the spiritual, emotional, and physical growth of all our beautiful young people.

You must be a thorough planner, able to anticipate potential problems and prepare for them. You need also be a creative problems solver, ready to aid in the inevitable surprises that will come up! A willingness to work with the established framework of this program and also bring some creative ideas for how to help it grow is a given. You must be familiar with age-appropriate expectations for teenagers and also be excited to work with them and get to know each one as an individual. Finally, you must possess a willingness to work hard, play hard, steal quiet moments for yourself within long days and gain satisfaction through behind-the-scenes efforts that result in positive experiences for others.
