Application Deadline: April 15, 2019
Help create delicious wholesome food for campers and counselors! This position involves cooking for about 80 people in a high energy environment under the supervision of our Kitchen Manager. Many of our ingredients are fresh from our garden or the local co-ops, and campers often pop into the garden and kitchen to help with the process. Campers and counselors help with dishes and cleaning the kitchen daily, and every week we have a couple of parent volunteers helping out as well. Assistant Kitchen Manager spends a lot of time in the kitchen, but also gets to plug into whatever camp activities they are passionate about. There is a break in the middle of each week, when our campers are out backpacking (usually Tuesday - Thursday), but weekends are pretty busy! Room and Board provided.
Located in the beautiful Sierra Nevada foothills near the scenic Yuba River and Tahoe National Forest, Camp Woolman embodies values of community, respect for nature, peace, and simple fun. Kids come to learn, play, make friends, and live in an accepting community where they can truly be themselves. We run two camps – Wombat Camp (ages 9-14) and Teen Leadership Camp (ages 15-17). In-camp activities include cooperative games, sports, arts, crafts, nature, music, singing, campfires, as well as place-based educational workshops. Each week also includes an offsite backpacking trip to nearby rivers, mountains and farms. When both camps are on site they share meals and will participate in many activities together.
During off time, Kitchen staff are welcome to enjoy many of the beautiful activities and aspects of Summer Camp life. Our campus is 236 acres of woods, trails, meadows and ponds that can be explored, and the scenic Yuba Rive is a 3 mile hike round trip, or a short drive. Our kitchen staff often form strong bonds and friendships with our summer camp staff and community, and can be our best audiences and participants for camp talent shows, lip sync battles, and epic capture the flag games. The Kitchen Assistant Manager will have their own small A-Frame, equipped with two built in beds and desks, and just a short walk from the Kitchen and Bathhouse.
Our summer camp programming runs for 6 weeks, from June 23 - August 3. Kitchen Assistant Manager will arrive a few days early to get oriented to the kitchen and campus. On site Room & Board is included for the entirety of these dates. Flexibility in dates may also be possible and can be discussed during the interview phase.
