Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower with us on Saturday, 8/10/19!
With guests arriving the evening of 8/10, we will enjoy a group picnic-themed dinner before laying out on the soccer field to enjoy the meteor shower together. Guests can either sleep-out under the stars or reserve a room or cabin if they prefer to sleep indoors. Sleeping bags and bedding can be rented onsite if you don't wish to bring your own. In the morning, guests are treated to a group breakfast before check-out.
More About the Shower
The Perseid Meteor Shower is named after Perseus, the constellation it appears in when looking at the sky. With the shower yielding up to 60 meteors per hour, it is one of the largest meteor showers we can watch. The debris from the 16-mile wide comet named Swift-Tuttle, the largest object known to pass by our planet, hitting our atmosphere is what creates this awe-inspiring natural event.

*** Guests can settle onto the soccer field at any time. Moonset is marked on the schedule because viewing will be better without the competing light of the moon. 12:00 a.m. is the suggested time for everyone to move formally to the viewing the area in anticipation of the moonset.
What time is Moonset on 8/10?
The moonset for Nevada City, CA is listed as 12:52 a.m. on 8/10. This means that the best time for viewing the meteor shower without the light of the moon competing will be after 1:00 a.m that night. You will want to factor this into your evening. The lateness of the moonset is one of the factors in making this an overnight event this year. (Source: http://www.timebie.com/moon/nevadacityca.php)
What about overnight sleeping? Can I rent a cabin or bring a tent?
The default ticket is for you to spend the night out on the soccer field sleeping outdoors overnight. If you don't want to sleep-out the entire night, there are cabins and rooms available for overnight rental for an added cost. You will find those options available in the ticketing link. We also have a designated tent camping area you can setup in that is away from the viewing area that you can retire back to if you don't want to spend the whole night out in the soccer field.
