"If you are someone who wants to be challenged, who wants an opportunity to look at the facts, evaluate them yourself, and live in a community of activists, this is the place for you.  At Woolman you learn to ‘think beyond the ordinary’ and live intentionally."
~Katja, Spring 2005

The Woolman Semester is a high school semester studies program for juniors, seniors, and 1st year postgraduates.  Through a focus on the issues of peace, justice, and sustainability, the Woolman Semester enriches a typical high school curriculum with seminar-style course work and experiential opportunities that promote life-long learning, personal growth and intellectual commitment.

Students and staff spend much of the day in small, rigorous academic classes, with substantial time devoted to the hands-on work of the community: the garden and orchard, the kitchen, and the forest.  We engage with the world through community events, letter writing, multimedia presentations and public speaking.  Exposure to new people and places also happens through our Service Learning Trip and Wilderness Week. Living in a small wood-heated cabin surrounded by woods, pasturelands, and the nearby homes of faculty and staff, students gain both independence and a sense of community that last a lifetime.  Additional classes that enrich the students’ time here are Ceramics, Body Movement, and Curricular Movie Night. Together, we explore the Quaker values of simplicity, peace, equality, integrity, community, and stewardship by living them here at the Woolman Semester.
